PWL - SES Handmade Clay Monsters
Hailey Sebahar

Students from Pau-Wa-Lu Middle School made a special delivery to Scarselli Elementary School—handmade clay monsters, each one inspired by the drawings and stories of Mrs. Hinojosa’s 1st grade class. View photos on Facebook.

This collaborative project, now in its second year, was led by PWL ceramics teacher Allison Meyers. It began earlier this spring when middle school students visited SES to help the first graders design and describe their own monsters. Later, the younger students took a field trip to PWL, where they began sculpting their creatures out of clay with the help of their middle school partners.

Since then, Meyers’ students have worked on finishing the monsters—adding details, glazing, and firing each one. Today, they returned to SES to deliver the final creations, matching each ceramic monster with its original artist.
