PAC Program honored Shannon Harris
Hailey Sebahar

The PAC Program (Partners Across Our Community) recently recognized Shannon Harris, Director of the Carson Valley Swim Center, with a well-deserved plaque.

PAC students have the opportunity to develop workplace skills while also enjoying tasks such as inventory management, sorting, and using industrial vacuum backpacks—a role they thoroughly enjoy.

Every week, the PAC program collaborates with the swim center, allowing students to actively engage in valuable work experiences. This partnership holds significant value for both the PAC program and the DCSD.

Shannon Harris, a proud alumni of Douglas High School, used to work as a paraprofessional for DCSD, where she worked closely with young adults with disabilities. Sherry Mitchell, the PAC Program Coordinator, expressed gratitude for Shannon's continued dedication, stating, "For her to return after all these years and become one of our cherished partners is truly wonderful. We've enjoyed working with you throughout these years."

Tyler, a student in the PAC program, summed up the sentiment: "The Carson Valley Swim Center is an essential part of our community."

Shannon Harris, Director of the Carson Valley Swim Center, shared her appreciation, saying, "I just want to say thank you to everyone who supports the school district and the East Fork Swimming District. When the swim district was developed, it went to a vote in front of the community. So it was our community who voted to have what you see next door actually built. One of the reasons why this community supported the development of the swim center is because we promised to be great partners to our community and we promised to be great partners to our school district specifically. As a DHS alumni and as a member of this community for 50 years, I am so thankful that I am able to carry through on that promise. It's about serving all ages and serving all abilities."
