News Crews at CCMES, MES & PWL
Hailey Sebahar

Students from the MES and CCMES News Crew had the chance to step into the world of broadcast journalism during a special news crew field trip to PWL middle school. View the photos on Facebook.

The PWL journalism group—made up of 7th and 8th grade students—welcomed the visiting K–5 students and set up different stations to show their younger visitors all the ways they create their school news.

Elementary students participated in green screen recording interviews, created background art in Canva, practiced video editing, and explored how to write and tell a story. The visit sparked ideas for what they might try back at their own schools—or, for the 5th graders heading to PWL next year, what they might join as special 6th grade guests.

Here’s what a few elementary students had to say about the experience:

“It was really fun seeing what middle schoolers do for their news crew. I learned how to edit a video and learned that talking loudly is important.” – Madison

“I liked learning about the green screen and editing from the middle schoolers.” – Emmy

“The middle schoolers were great teachers. They helped me learn all the different things that their news crew does. I want to try some of these out at MES, especially the green screen.” – Everly

“The green screen and meeting new people was my favorite part of the trip. I liked the bloopers too.” – Marcedave
