Honoring Our Veterans at Gardnerville Elementary!
Hailey Sebahar

On November 6th, Gardnerville Elementary School hosted a memorable Veterans Day assembly to honor and thank those who have served our country. View the Photos on Facebook

This year’s theme, “A Legacy of Loyalty and Service,” comes from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and was chosen to help students reflect on the values of legacy, loyalty, and service that our veterans exemplify.

The assembly featured a heartfelt reading of Proud as a Peacock, Brave as a Lion by teachers Colleen Kings and Kelly Cannon. Students from all grades contributed artwork, and those who wanted to honor a veteran decorated stars for a special hallway display. The new 4th and 5th grade choir gave an inspiring performance, singing My Country 'Tis of Thee in sign language and concluding with the Star-Spangled Banner.

Each veteran received a unique book filled with one-of-a-kind drawings and thank you notes from GES students, expressing their gratitude through art.

The assembly also included a Missing Man Table, reminding everyone of those who are no longer with us. To conclude, Thom Lallement, who has been playing the bugle at this event for as long as many can remember—over 16 years—honored our veterans with a moving performance.

A special thank you to the Veterans Day team for making this event possible:

- Heather Daniels - for your dedication and passion for this annual event.

- Katie Hill - for finding just the right book to share each year.

- Colleen Kings & Kelly Cannon - for bringing the story to life through your reading.

- Nick Gitthens - for all the behind-the-scenes work that makes GES shine.

- Heather Kuehner - for advocating for and preparing the GES choir to honor our veterans through song.
