GWHS Girls Soccer Earns Academic and Athletic Honors
Hailey Sebahar

The Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association (NIAA) and Ingraham Trophies have announced the Academic Team Champions for Fall 2025, celebrating student-athletes who excel both in the classroom and in competition.

The NIAA Academic Team State Championship recognizes teams in each classification based on unweighted GPA for full varsity rosters participating in sanctioned sports.

Among those honored is the George Whittell High School varsity girls soccer team, which wrapped up an impressive regular season with a 10–4 record, earning a spot in the 2A State Championship Playoffs on October 31 at Dayton High School.

The team was powered offensively by freshman standout Emily Varela, who led the squad in both points and goals, with Kate Pillsbury close behind as a strong second. Despite being a young team, 8 of the 11 starters are underclassmen, the girls showed determination and teamwork throughout the season.

Sophomore captains Ayla Rodriguez and Emily Goldstein, along with junior captain Asha Ryan, provided outstanding leadership, keeping the team focused and motivated every step of the way.

Congratulations to the Whittell girls on a fantastic season, and best of luck as they head into the state playoffs this Friday!
