GES's SALT Students: Making GES a Place Where Everyone Feels Welcome
Hailey Sebahar

Well into its second year, Gardnerville Elementary School's Student Ambassadors Leadership Team (SALT) empowers 4th and 5th graders to lead and create a welcoming school community.

Led by Mrs. Michelle Baugh, ELL Teacher at GES, the program's vision is to foster a positive environment through kindness, respect, and commitment. SALT is divided into four groups—The Kindness Kids, Announcement Ambassadors, Dream Chasers, and Cougar Crew—each focusing on unique initiatives.

During weekly meetings, students work on projects like preparing Cougar Medals for recognizing outstanding behavior, crafting special school announcements, and creating posters for Spirit Week. They also fundraise through events like their popular end-of-year school dance, with proceeds supporting future activities. With the motto, “SALT Feels Like Home,” these young leaders are making GES a place where everyone feels welcome.
