BREADCRUMB

Betts Education Foundation Honorarium Scholarship
Hailey Sebahar

At the August 8, 2023 DCSD Board of Trustees Meeting, Ms. Bednar and Ms. Hays were presented with the Dr. F. Gregory Betts Education Foundation Honorarium Scholarship by Mrs. Doris Betts.

The Douglas County School District would like to recognize Ms. Lyndsey Bednar and Ms. Kelli Hays as this year’s recipients of the Dr. F. Gregory Betts Education Foundation Honorarium Scholarship.

Ms. Bednar has been a DCSD teacher for 10 years.  She taught her first 8 years as a kindergarten and first grade teacher and has since been an instructional coach for our Professional Development Center. Ms. Bednar is completing her master’s degree through the American College of Education in Educational Leadership.  She is a pioneer of personalized instruction and is committed to EPIC learning and being a leader in 21st-century teaching.

Ms. Hays has been a paraeducator in DCSD since 2017.  She has worked with students in the Comprehensive Life Skills class and students with visual impairments. Ms. Hays is entering her final year of study through Western Governors University and working toward earning a degree and dual certification in Special Education and Elementary Education.

Dr. F. Gregory Betts was the Superintendent of Schools for the Douglas County from 1979-1992.  During his leadership he began the first Professional Development Center (PDC) and was a staunch believer in the power of continuous improvement for teachers and instructional leaders.  Upon Dr. Betts’ passing, his family began the Dr. F. Gregory Betts Education Foundation Honorarium Scholarship to support the efforts of DCSD employees who are working toward the attainment of either a Doctorate or Master’s degree in curriculum and instruction.  The Honorarium has been awarded annually.    This year’s recipients, Lyndsey Bednar and Kelli Hays, continue to be assets to our school district and are truly committed to the success of all students. We are excited to celebrate Ms. Bednar’s and Ms. Hays’ dedication to education.

The DCSD would like to thank the Mrs. Doris Betts and the Betts Family for their continued support!
