schools. Proper nutrition is a major component of achieving optimal student wellness
in order for students and families to get the most out of learning and overall health.

Each school site within DCSD has a designated Wellness Coordinator. To learn more about Student Wellness within DCSD, or to find out who the Wellness Coordinator is at a specific school site, contact Melissa McKinney at 775.782.7613.

Smart Snacks in School

All foods sold at school during the school day are required to meet nutrition standards. The Smart Snacks in School regulation applies to foods sold a la carte, in the school store, vending machines, and any other venues where food is sold to students.

Is Your Snack a Smart Snack? Use the Smart Snacks Product Calculator, developed by the Alliance for a Healthier Generation, to take the guesswork out of nutrition guidelines! Simply enter the product information, answer a few questions, and determine whether your snack, side or entree item meets the new USDA Smart Snacks in School Guidelines.

DCSD Nutrition Services understands that good nutrition is essential for sound academic performance and that it impacts the health and success of our children. If you have any questions regarding this, please call the School Nutrition Office 775.782.7613
