Leadership
A message from Superintendent Keith Lewis for students, staff and families regarding the 23-24 school year.
Dear DCSD Community,
As we embark on a new school year, I am filled with both excitement and gratitude to welcome you all back to our esteemed educational community. This marks my 4th year as the Superintendent of the Douglas County School District, and my 29th year in DCSD. It is an honor beyond words to continue leading and learning alongside the exceptional students, dedicated staff, and supportive families that define our district.
Our theme for the 2023-24 academic year is "Be Your Own Superhero," and it is more than just a catchy phrase – it's a powerful challenge that we extend to every member of our district. Each one of us possesses unique talents, abilities, and potential that, when harnessed, can create extraordinary impacts in our lives, our schools, and our communities. Just like superheroes, we have the capacity to rise above challenges, inspire change, and uplift those around us. Let's embark on this journey of self-discovery together and unleash the superpowers within us all.
Our commitment to educational excellence remains unwavering. This year, we will continue our journey with EPIC Learning, and I am thrilled to announce our focus on Responsive Instruction. In the pursuit of providing the best possible learning experience, we will emphasize formative assessment to guide our teaching strategies, personalized learning to cater to individual strengths and needs, and the essential principles of rigor and relevance to ensure a well-rounded education that prepares our students for a rapidly evolving world.
I am proud to share that we will continue nurturing the strong bond between our schools and families through enhanced two-way communication. We understand the importance of keeping you informed and involved in your child's education journey. To this end, I am thrilled to announce the launch of the new Douglas County School District, and new websites for every school site. These platforms are designed to improve communication and enhance accessibility to vital information, fostering an even stronger partnership between us.
As we embark on this new chapter, I want to express my deepest appreciation for the remarkable staff we have assembled for the 2023-24 academic year. Their dedication, passion, and unwavering commitment to our students' success are the driving forces behind the incredible educational experiences that our district offers. It is truly the people who make our district shine, and I am honored to lead this exceptional team.
Let us approach this school year with enthusiasm, determination, and a sense of purpose. Together, as students, staff, families, and as communities united by a common goal, we will overcome challenges, achieve milestones, and make a lasting impact. Here's to a year of growth, discovery, and the unleashing of our inner superheroes.
With great anticipation and warm regards,
Keith Lewis
