About
Douglas County School District is a public education system nestled among 751 beautiful square miles of western Nevada. Our county includes both the Carson Valley and portions of Lake Tahoe. Our district serves the communities of Gardnerville, Minden, Genoa and parts of Lake Tahoe (from Glenbrook to Stateline.)
The Valley is bordered on the west by the Carson Range of the Sierra Nevada with peaks reaching 11,000 feet above sea level, and by the Pinenut Mountains on the east rising to 9,400 feet.
Our schools provide over 5,400 students with a nurturing and rigorous learning environment. Douglas County students are successful because our employees, parents, and community work together to provide a quality education.
DCSD is EPIC!
Douglas County School District set out on a path in 2019 to modernize learning through the implementation of EPIC Learning. EPIC, an acronym for Empower, Prepare, Inspire, Connect, is aimed at updating the learning experience in Douglas County schools to better suit the latest generation’s needs. By utilizing technology, personalizing education, and giving students more of a voice in the classroom, EPIC’s goal is to create engaged graduates prepared for success. The hallmarks of EPIC Learning are student voice, student choice, transparency of learning, and student ownership. By giving students more agency, they become more interested in learning and better prepared for life after high school. Utilizing Modern Teacher philosophies, DCSD developed EPIC as a way to rethink the traditional classroom model and adapt to the modern student.
